Happy hump day! We
made it to the first Wednesday of the month and that means it is time for an
Insecure Writer’s Support Group post. Where did January go, friends? It seems like yesterday we were starting this
new year. How did it go for you? Ups and Downs? Insides and Outs? I did write a little in January. Mainly papers/essays for school. Did you know I can churn out three essays about
science in under an hour and get rated exceptional on each of them? This had lead me to believe that if I think too
much about things (writing), it hinders me in a way. If I just go for it and write, write, write,
I am okay. Spilling words on to pages
and making them come alive.

So, our question for the month: What do you love about the genre you write in
most often?
I love to write about travel and travel planning. I love telling people about places that I
have been and why they should visit them.
I like giving people a heads up on places/things that might not be as
great as they seem. Also, if you have to deal with the Wyoming starvation diet
because there are no restaurants open on Monday evenings, so you need to plan
ahead on food there. I love traveling and planning. I am a type A when it comes to some
things. I am not hostile though. I’ve seen that word a lot with type As and
that’s not me. I do have a relaxed, fun
side and that’s what makes travel so fun.
I like to plan, but if things happen spontaneously, that’s okay too. I
want people to experience the world around them and it’s okay if you don’t have
a lot of money. Travel can still happen
if you budget properly and plan ahead (and have money for those not planned
side trips).

I also like to write about Roller Derby. Not so much on this blog, put on the league
blog that we have. Occasionally, I will
post things over here, but mostly pictures and game recaps or thoughts and
feelings. I like writing about it
because it is a sport I really truly love.
I know it’s a small community, but everyone has to belong to some sort
of community and love that community that they are in.
On the blog, I enjoy link ups. I love reading others peoples blogs and
seeing what they are up to and what they are writing about. I try to visit all the people in a link up. The IWSG is a little harder though because
there are so many people! I will try to
visit as many as possible and make comments though. I know that’s not a genre, but it’s still
writing and enjoying others work.

I think it's great you give travel tips. Those are also helpful to writers who send their characters to those places and need details you wouldn't find elsewhere.
I love our little chin chin. He has such a personality.
DeleteThe other picture was in Yellowstone at Mammoth Springs. One of my favorite childhood pictures was taken it. It has changed a lot, but from reading and investigating, it seems like Mammoth Springs can change from day to day. Geology is awesome.
Travel writing is so very helpful. I'm a big fan of writing really detailed reviews on TripAdvisor. There's no better way to plan than with the advice of real people that have been there! Happy Travels this year.
ReplyDeleteMe too!! I love TripAdvisor! I always like to read the lower starred reviews first, then move my way to the higher reviews. I like to look at the reviewers also to see if they are credible or if they are upset about one thing.

ReplyDeleteI don't know! The only person we even saw in this town was at the gas station where we tried to scrounge up something to eat. The hotel was cute though and reasonability priced.
DeleteGreat that you love traveling and it is even more wonderful because you like sharing your experiences. These experiences help others when they go to a place or country where you have already been.

I don't think you can call yourself a true traveler if you don't include a little bit of spontaneity in it. I mean what do you do if a random road is closed? What if the restaurant you had planned to visit no long offers any food you are used to eating? You always have to be ready for something to go wrong or be different than you planned. If not, can you really say that you've experienced the place?
ReplyDeleteResponding to people through comments definitely feels like it should be a genre. You are taking something someone else said and putting it through your lens. And you won't always be as excited about what they've said in their blog post, so that can take a bit of thought too.
