So one year ago...

I messaged this guy because I thought he was cute and funny and adorable...

and I still think that and so much more.

Just know you are the perfect haz of haz of all the haz for me and there is a reason why we found each other.
Things get tough and we make it.  We got this.

All the braces

Alli started her two years with braces today.
She did awesome and they didn't take as long as I
expected for her to get them.

Things Peyton have said...

Peyton:  I went to church with Papa.

Me: How did that go?

Peyton:  The neighbors were there.

Me:  Oh

Peyton:  I prayed they would move away.

Peyton:  Are you doing Chemistry?

Me: Yes

Peyton:  Are you making things blow up?

Me: No

Peyton:  That's kinda lame.

An hour later, he was sleeping on the couch.  I made something kinda blow up.
He missed it.

At the library

Peyton:  Why is that guy staring at you?

Me: He asked me if I came to the library to use the internet.

Peyton: What did you say?

Me: I said no, I came to look at books.

Peyton: What did he say?

Me: He asked me if I was married.

Peyton:  What did you tell him?

Me: I said yes

Peyton: But you aren't married, why did you tell him that?

Me: So he would leave me alone.  It worked.  He got up and walked to that table.

Peyton: But he's still staring at you.  Do I need to talk to him?

Peyton:  Mom, can we go to Chick-fil-a

Me: Yes, are you buying?

Peyton:  I'm buying myself my free frozen lemonade. You take care of the rest.

Peyton: Mom, I promise to take showers if you buy me bar soap.

Peyton: Mom, I like wearing almost the same thing everyday.

Mom: That's okay as long as it's clean.

Peyton:  Yeah, I don't want to be the smelly kid.

Alli and I went and volunteered at Harvesters this weekend.  It is our local food bank that provides food drops for both Kansas and Missouri.

Today, we had about 220 families go through the line.
Some were able to go through a second time.

Bags of Apples and even more bags of Potatoes

writer' workshop: ten songs

Ten songs...this was a little difficult to narrow down.

Here are my no order...just ten songs that I've been listening to lately...

1. Meg Myers - Motel

I really like Meg Myers.  She needs to come back to Kansas City.  I missed her last time. Sad face.

2. The Lumineers - Ophelia

"Honey, I love you, that's all she wrote"

And I enjoy watching this video.  Splashing in the puddles.

I love your face. <3

3 The Strumbellas - Spirits

"And I don't want a never ending life
I just want to be alive while I'm here
And I don't want to see another night
Lost inside a lonely life while I'm here"

Try to do your best to become a better person.  Not just for the people around you, but for yourself.

4. Nothing but Thieves - Trip Switch

This might be a little comment on society, but ::shrugs:: I don't know.

5. Elle King - America's Sweetheart

I have no reasoning behind this song.  I just like it.

6. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home

7. Zella Day - The Outlaw Josey Wales

This song, I have a problem with it.
"Union state Missouri outlaw"
In 1819, Missouri asked to be admitted to the Union as a slave state.  During that time, the United States had 22 states, evenly divided among slave and free states.  Missouri would disrupt that.
The Missouri Compromise was formed allowing Missouri to enter as a slave state and for Maine to enter as a free state and, ith the exception of Missouri, the rest of the Louisiana Purchase north of the 36°30' was to be free.
So technically once the Civil War started Missouri was confederate.
In the movie, The Outlaw Josey Wales, he was a confederate guerilla being hunted down by Union soldiers.  In Missouri. Not a Union state.
(Do you see why I drive people nuts at work with my knowledge of just things? They also like to ask me over and over again why I'm working here.  Guys, I have plans, don't worry about me)

8. Emiliana Torrini - White Rabbit

Alice in Wonderland.  It's in the upcoming Alice Through the Looking Glass movie preview.  This song actually came up for me on Pandora a long time ago.

9. The Civil Wars - Baron Hollow

10. The New Basement Tapes - Kansas City

This song is amazing

the place where the big cats are....

Alli has been wanting to do this for weeks.  Ever since I told her about it, she has wanted to go.  The place with the big cats.  The place where you learn all things about big cats.

We took about a 30 minute drive down south to Louisburg to the Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory.

Cats that can roar cannot purr.  Cats that can purr cannot roar.

There's no such thing as a Panther.  The Florida Panther is actually a puma, which isn't even in the Panthera genus, so who knows how that happened.  The Black Panther is actually a spotted leopard with a little more melanin

This cat is super obsessed with her water bowl.
She's almost two years old and she just loved water all together.
Sisterly love.  These two came from the same litter and are almost
a year old.
She wanted some lovins' and she got some pets from the person
who looks after her.
This is a caracal kitty.  She has long tufts of hair on her ears, her
front legs are shorter than her back legs and she has a little
tail.  She's not endangered in the wild, but people do like to
hunt them because they think they eat their chickens.
The SERVICAL kitty is the one that breds with domestic house cats to get
the Savannah cats.  I want a Savannah cat.
Fat Bobcat.  Fat happy bobcat
Tanner said the people with us were idiots.  He was right.
Cougar.  Puma,  Mountain Lion. Catamount. Florida Panther.
This guy was adorable.
Someone bought him to be a housecat.
Got him declawed (What vet would do that?)
Then decided he was too big.
So, he's happy here.
Lazy Lions
They have wolves too!
They were huge!
Here is the spotted leopard!
She's 21 years old and she's healing up so she can go back outside.

They are all over the place!

Alli's adorable
Hello, Fall

Writer's Workshop: Instagram Post

I couldn't remember if I had posted anything in the last month on Instagram.
I'm horrible about posting pictures, updates and all that fun stuff on social media lately.
Facebook is absolutely driving me nuts!  Guess what people, I don't care who you vote for.  I'm glad you are voting, but keep that to yourself.
Then, I went off topic.

My favorite Instahaz post from this month was the Salvy Splash.
Salvador Perez is awesome.
My friends daughter is now absolutely obsessed with him since he gave her a smile and posed for her from the bullpen.  She asked for him to come play with her.  She's two.  It's adorable.

This billboard had been up for quite a while, but I had never made it down to Westport to see it.
So, two days before it was to be taken down, we finally made it.
Then we had Sonic and it was pretty much the perfect lunch (except when your friend orders no food and wants your mozzarella sticks)

Side note:  I think it's quite hilarious that Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas attended the Biebs concert last.  Hosmer probably got more attention then the Biebs did.

Baseball Tuesday

Baseball is back guys!  I'm so excited!
While this was the second game, they called it Opening Day, which is technically was since the first game was at night.
They played the Mets again.
The Royals won the Sunday night game, the Mets won Tuesdays game.
Nothing significant happened in either game.

Going to the 'Ship!

It was up in the air until the very end of our game.
We played the Royals Pains.
This the four years of derby...was the one
I played in the most. (And guess how many pictures there are of me....this one)
We had to beat them by 16.  We beat them by 18.  It was so close.
On April 30th, we are playing for the championship against
the Lovely Lethals.

This is the first time in four years that any team other than the Sheilas and the Pains have fought it out for the Championship.  The teams are equally matched this year.

The 3rd place spot is totally up for grabs.  Either of those two teams could win.

While the House team season ends on April 30th, the coed season begins in June.
